Intuitive Eating is a non-diet process that encourages a holistic approach to nourishing the body and mind. 


The program was developed by two dieticians in 1995 to address the yo-yo dieting cycle. Intuitive eating honors your health through listening to your body's cues of physical and emotional needs.


The three keys to intuitive eating are:


  1. Unconditional permission to eat what you desire when you're hungry.
  2. Eating for physical, rather than emotional, reasons.
  3. Relying on internal hunger and satiety cues to determine how much to eat.


Other common themes of intuitive eating include: 

 

  • Make peace with food (it’s not your enemy).
  • Reject the toxic diet culture.
  • Permit yourself to eat without judgment.
  • Remove the labels of good or bad from food.
  • Respect your natural body as it is.
  • Embrace your health over your weight.
